Title: CONNECTING THE DOTS: IMPROVING STUDENT OUTCOMES WITH GREAT INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN
Introduction / scope of work
Three main areas will be explored and referenced throughout this book: fundamentals of great instructional design, quality design, and improving student learning outcomes.
To set the stage, we will provide a chapter on each that will serve as a primer providing context for the case studies to follow. These chapters will not be definitive summaries of the vast resources on each subject but will serve to define the lenses through which the case studies are conveyed.
Chapters that will be selected to be a part of this book will provide a real-world (case study style) example of instructional design in practice. There should be an alignment to an ID model, quality metrics, continuous improvement as a practice, multimedia research-based effective practices, competency-based education design, application-based assignments, clinical work in digital learning environments, and much more.
The finished book will be published as an open educational resource and be available in paperback.

Proposal:
Chapter proposals should be submitted on a single-spaced page, and should include your name, affiliation, email address, a tentative title, and abstract (200 words maximum). Also, include a brief biography (300 words maximum) and relevant high-quality publications. Chapter proposals must be emailed as a single Word file document consisting of 2 pages to Whitney Kilgore, PhD at the University of North Texas (whitneykilgore@my.unt.edu) by October 30, 2018.
Chapter Submission:
Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by December 30, 2018 about the status of their submission and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters, ranging from 7,000 to 8,000 words in Times New Roman 12, double-spaced text, inclusive of title, abstract, manuscript, and references, should be submitted as a Microsoft Word email attachment by February 28, 2019. Manuscripts should conform to 6th edition APA style conventions. Graphics and images may be included.
Draw on the author(s) own experience and practical examples of applying quality instructional design in a particular context. The chapter should conclude with recommended readings for further exploration.
Peer Review Process:
Each author will be asked to peer review another chapter and provide feedback for use in the editing process. Draft chapters should be peer-reviewed by April 30th, 2019.
